Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Pickle ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Morgan Bennett. You can reach us at iminapickle.app@gmail.com.
2. What information we collect
Information you provide:
- Account information: when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers.
- Display name and avatar: you choose a display name and emoji avatar in the app.
- Phone number: optionally provided for contact matching to find friends.
- Content you post: text and photos you submit as Pickle options.
- Votes: the choices you make when voting on Pickles.
Information collected automatically:
- Push notification token: to send you notifications about votes, friends, and activity.
- Usage data: which Pickles you view and vote on, and timing data used to calculate your Pickle Personality.
- Analytics events: in-app actions (e.g., posting, voting, viewing the upgrade screen) are collected via PostHog to understand how the app is used and improve it. These events are associated with your account.
- Device information: standard mobile app data including device type and OS version.
3. How we use your information
- Operate the app and provide core features (posting, voting, friend connections)
- Match you with contacts who are also on Pickle (only if you grant contacts permission)
- Send push notifications about your Pickles and friends' activity
- Calculate your Pickle Personality and voter ranking
- Moderate content for safety (text and images reviewed by automated services)
- Respond to support requests
4. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal data.
We share data only with the services that make the app work:
- Supabase: our database, authentication, and storage provider (supabase.com)
- Apple / Google: authentication providers you choose to sign in with
- OpenAI: text content is sent to OpenAI's Moderation API for safety screening (no data is used to train OpenAI models)
- Google Cloud Vision: images are sent to Google's SafeSearch API for safety screening
- RevenueCat: processes subscription purchases (revenuecat.com)
- Expo: used for push notification delivery (expo.dev)
- PostHog: product analytics; receives in-app usage events tied to your account so we can understand and improve the app (posthog.com). PostHog is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use it for advertising.
Public vs. Friends content: public Pickles are anonymous, so your name is not shown. Friends Pickles show your display name to your friends only.
5. Data retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which permanently removes your profile, Pickles, and votes. See how to delete your account.
6. Children's privacy and minimum age
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use Pickle. By using the app you confirm that you are 13 or older. Pickle is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at iminapickle.app@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
7. Push notifications
We use Expo's push notification service to send you notifications for friend requests, votes on your Pickles, and new Pickles from friends. To do this, we store a device push token associated with your account. This token is used solely to deliver notifications to your device and is deleted when you sign out or delete your account. You can disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings app without affecting other features.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (use Settings → Delete Account, or email us)
- Opt out of certain data processing

9. Data security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and Supabase Row Level Security to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions.

11. Changes to this policy
